Description I am Faris Ridzuan, a graduate student pursuing my Master of Arts in Malay Studies in the National University of Singapore and the recipient of the Tan Ean Kiam Scholarship, Malay Studies Postgraduate Scholarship, NUS Tuition Fee Allowance Award & Muis-Warees Bursary. I am also working as an Academic Tutor in the College of Humanities and Sciences in the National University of Singapore; an IP English and General Paper Teaching/Curriculum Specialist at illum.e; a Mendaki Tuition Scheme Head Tutor at Naval Base Primary School and Tutor at Ang Mo Kio Primary School; and an Academic Tutor for the Postgraduate Certificate in Islam in Contemporary Societies (PCICS). After obtaining a First Class Honours in Sociology from NUS, I was selected to be part of the Public Service Leadership Programme and the Alpha Society. The Alpha Society is an exclusive society whose members comprise public service leaders as well as past and present Administrative Officers, Public Service Leadership Programme (PSLP) Officers and officers on other public service talent programmes. I worked as a youth and education policy officer and researcher in the Public Service, and as a Policy Manager in TikTok before returning to NUS. I was appointed Grassroots Leader in 2015. As a Grassroots Leader, I was organising social cohesion activities and helping less fortunate members in the constituency. I am now under consideration to be in IRCC. I have also been volunteering as an advisor and consultant at AMKFSC Community Services since 2016. I contributed to a programme which aimed to improve the sleep of underprivileged children and caregivers, by contributing to practice research, programmes, interventions, and strategic analysis. I have also been volunteering in the interfaith scene with the Harmony Centre and as a member of the Inter-Religious Organisation. In 2022 I was appointed as a volunteer Subject Matter Expert and Youth Panel Member for the Association of Muslim Professionals (AMP). As a volunteer, I led projects on underprivileged youth, spearheading research and strategy workstreams related to underprivileged youth and mental health. I was part of the panelists and leads for the co-creation and co-consultation of the AMP 4th National Convention, where Minister Lawrence Wong was Guest of Honour. I recently clinched Silver (Second Prize Globally) for the Canadian International Music Competition for the Musical Instrument Category - Voice, and under the Artist Category - defined as professional artist level musicians/performers (adults) (even though I am not a professional artist career wise). I was also invited and appointed to be a member of INSPIRIT. INSPIRIT is a community of outstanding and influential youth leaders with diverse perspectives and keen interest to advocate for youth causes that impact the community. The government, along with partnerships with the people and private sectors, curates and provides opportunities and resources to me and other INSPIRIT youth leaders through co-curating important dialogues and conversations with them on national issues, networking sessions to meet other like-minded youths and through leadership nominations. My social entrepreneurship team also clinched the top spot as finalist for the International Social Entrepreneurship Competition in Shanghai which was organised by The Expatriate Centre (Shanghai) & Global Shapers Community Shanghai Zizhu. My team, GO-CAG, which focused on environmental sustainability and alleviation of climate change, emerged as one of the 6 top finalists for this international entrepreneurship competition, which saw over 70 shortlisted individual contestants and 16 teams from 11 different countries to receive one-on-one professional guidance from 16 industry leaders in order to perfect entrepreneurship programs, and who then competed with each other to vie to clinch the top spots as finalists for this international social entrepreneurship competition.
